“…you had to follow a donkey’s track for four hours. Despite the hazards of the journey and the uncomfortable accommodation in the village houses, the region’s people happily overcame the risks and discomforts of the trip in order to be near the spring for a few days.”
The history of the Vilas del Turbón springs speaks of a close relationship between the people living in the place and its mineral waters. We find accounts from the early years of the past century talking about these so special waters, “all of their lives they enjoyed these prestigious water amongst the residents of the area, for some of the curative properties.”
In 1908, Mr Manuel Camo, a pharmacist and resident of Huesca, seeing the great fame and renown of the waters in the region and convinced of their therapeutic effectiveness, started an expedition to have them declared a public utility.
The fame of the springs and therefore the affluence of visitors from neighbouring provinces began to increase after this time, and the larger number of people going to the spa led to the creation of a joint stock company in 1931, which proceeded to preserve and regulate the spa. This company carried out the first hygienic harnessing of the water and the first bottling in Vilas del Turbón. It was finally declared a Medicinal Mineral water in 1958 (Official State Gazette No. 120)
According to the Chronicles of F. Seral y Casas, in 1934 some people felt almost devotion for the mineral waters, “from the town of el Campo, where the road ended, to the spring, you had to follow a donkey’s track four hours”.
In 2005, the prestigious COBEGA S.A. group, with its great tradition in the fizzy water sector, purchased Vilas del Turbón, and started a process of comprehensive industrial and technological modernisation to offer the first Gourmet Water on our market.
